The Lighter Side of: Mood Swings

Mood swings are a part of life for everybody. Anyone who has experienced severe hormonal changes knows exactly what mood swings are. Anyone who has ever been on a course of Prednisone (3 months or longer) will most definitely understand mood swings. Sometimes we have emotions that do not have any real base, maybe we are unaware of the reason, or come from places that are uncontrollable. If you have never experienced an unexpected mood swing, then it is nearly impossible to explain. You feel this intensely strong emotion - for no real reason - and no matter how hard you try, there is no concealing the way you feel.

Due to various medications, recent changes in medication, and suffering from constant pain, my mood swings have been in full force lately. By lately, I mean yesterday.
I went from being so sad that I stuffed a loaf of banana bread in my mouth while crying with a glass of wine in my hand to being so angry I screamed in my pillow and then went downstairs and punched our punching bag.
Even if I DID have a reason to feel this upset, not being able to at least hold it together is unlike me (or at least unlike me after age 20ish).

The Lighter Side of Mood Swings is that when I am particularly upset, I like to clean. It keeps me moving, it keeps me distracted, I can blast music to drown out any negative thoughts, and tires me out. The best part? Our house is very clean. With laundry and dishes and garbages and organizing and sweeping - getting angry and resorting to obsessive cleaning is not the worst thing.

Best thing to do when you have mood swings: try to stay by yourself and keep busy.
