Progress Shots

My scars have never been a real sore spot or anything.
Of course, when I was younger and still in high school, my abdominal scars were fresh and new, so they bothered me a little bit. That didn't last long.
Those first couple of summers I would go and find temporary tattoos that could conceal my stoma scar, but the scar to open me up never really bothered me. From far away it simply made my abs look more defined.
Now, nearly 17 years later, I have a few more scars. Lucky for me, they are sometimes tough to see.
Now that I have had yet another surgery to remove an organ, I have five new scars waiting to be revealed, and a year of healing.
I am proud of my scars.
They show what I have been through and they remind me of how much strength I had when I was young. These scars remind me why I am alive and who has helped me fight throughout the years.
I don't shy away from showing those scars that much.
Scars remind me of everything I have been able to fight through.
Plus, I have gotten lucky with each surgery. Every surgeon has been especially careful to preserve the physical appearance of my abdomen (and belly button).
