He had mentioned additional injections that could help my migraines before, including trigger point injections into the consistently tight muscles in my shoulders and back. I felt up to trying them out this time, so we tried it.
Well.... my body didn't like it so much.
To be honest, the pain from the actual injections was not even half as bad as I was expecting. My shoulders, traps, and upper back are all sore to the touch, so the idea of needles going into those muscles made me cringe, but the actual injections were not bad at all. (Maybe it's because I've now gone through nerve ablation, which is exponentially worse...).
I started getting dizzy after three of the injections though. Not just dizzy, but flushed, and sweaty, and nauseated.
And then it got worse.
And worse.
My arms were so heavy I couldn't lift them. He asked if I wanted to lie down and I told him I didn't think I could move.
Then he called a nurse in to stay with me while he got me a glass of water. When he came back, I know they were talking to me, but I couldn't make out anything they were saying. It sounded like I was underwater. There was ringing and static in my ear, the low drone of their voices, I couldn't move, and everything felt fuzzy and off, along with sweating, flushing, and nausea.
The nurse took my blood pressure during this ordeal and it had dropped to 70/44. !!!! The whole thing didn't last more than a couple of minutes, but I had never felt like that! Apparently it was a sort of fainting spell - experiencing all but losing consciousness.
Now, I've blacked out before, and I have almost fainted from severe pain, but this was unexpected. It was brutally uncomfortable, but also fascinating (I know, I'm very weird). I wish I could have been a fly on the wall to actually see what it looked like from the outside compared to what it felt like. I definitely would not want to experience that again if I can help it.
The rest of the day felt like a hangover. Just soreness all over, exhaustion, and felt kind of unwell the rest of the day, even though the symptoms of the spell themselves subsided quickly.
Who knew?!
Just another adventure. Lol
