There is no "Lighter Side of Medicine" without the darker side.
The Lighter Side of Medicine has been a blog about the truth of handling chronic illness and complex medical issues while trying to find the love in life simultaneously. It has been about chronic illness education and trying to convey my personal experiences over the years: not shying away from tough experiences and details. It has also been about celebrating all of the good moments and finding joy on whichever path my body tends to steer me.
On the other side of that coin, though, is The Darker Side of Medicine. While there are a myriad of struggles, this podcast focuses on one particular area of contention: Sleep.
Sleep is one of our most important parts of life, yet problematic sleep is not usually the first symptom that is widely acknowledged as having a major impact on life, especially if it is experienced long-term.
I have had disordered sleep for as long as I can remember - which only worsened with the addition of chronic pain & illness. I have issues with insomnia, interrupted sleep, Hypnagogic & Hypnopompic hallucinations, sleep-talking, sleep-walking, sleep paralysis, sleep apnea, lucid dreaming, false awakenings, and some of the most horrific nightmares. These nightmares, which are constant, are the source material for my podcast, because if you're going to dream of people dying or being possessed or hunted, might as well make some entertainment out of it.
I give you:
