Sometimes recuperation days mean lying in bed for hours, falling in and out of sleep all day, going back and forth from the bed to the washroom, and holding in my nausea trying not to vomit.
Other days it is about trying to recuperate mentally and emotionally, as well as physically. My headaches and migraines have been particularly bad as of late, and the past few days have been spent in the bedroom watching tv on low and massaging my temples (as if that actually helps my headache). Today it is snowing. And snowing a LOT. So my headache has finally subsided. This means that I can try and do some yoga and spend some time outside and I can open the blinds and not worry about that sharp pain behind my eyes.
All I want to do this time of year is get out camping or to a lake - go kayaking!!! But I will have to settle for throwing the ball in the yard for my pup and enjoying the snowy day.
Recuperating and resting doesn't always mean that I am stuck in bed barely able to move or eat or function. Sometimes it means taking care of the other parts of myself - my mental and emotional health. So I try to shake off this cabin fever by getting outside, and doing some stretches to help with the pain in my back and hips.
Then, after I have enjoyed a couple of things, then I will do my treatment and revert back to the bed to fall in and out of sleep for the remainder of the day. Sometimes though, you need to take care of yourself in other ways. That is my focus today.
Check out the video here of what my recuperation day looks like.
