I don't believe that it is any secret that I have had a difficult time having showers.
In 2015 I had one of my most unhealthy years and showering became elusive. Standing for that long was out of the question, the arm movements to wash my hair or shave my legs made me vomit, and I would have a throat reaction from the chlorine in the tap water if I spent too long sitting in there with the door closed.
I tried using a shower bench, which made things a lot easier, but it just wasn't the same. It was not the relaxing experience I had always loved.
I began having baths instead, where I could just lie there and watch a movie, washing my hair when I had the energy to move my arms. Taking my time. Making the process as enjoyable as I could. Avoiding nausea.
Over the last year, with practicing yoga and slowly allowing my body to regulate from that awful health year, my energy has improved a little bit. It's not like I can just step outside and go for a run or anything drastic - I still have to use my cane and my wheelchair - but my energy has improved enough that I can have the odd shower. The shower bench still sits there and I have to sit at some point, and I usually cannot wash my hair AND shave my legs AND do a body wash. That is most often way too much movement for my sensitive body.
Except for the other day.
The other day I enjoyed THE best shower I have taken since 2014. 5 years! Holy hell.
I was able to wash my hair, use body wash, do a full body sugar scrub, do a facial scrub, enjoy a beautifully-scented shower steamer, stand underneath the raindrop shower-head with no concern about fainting, shave my legs, use in-shower bath oil, and do an extra round of hair conditioning.
That's a lot!!
I had to sit down once. ONCE!
I had the fan running and had to keep the door and shower curtain partially open to let some of that chlorine out, but that was such an incredible shower. It felt luxurious.
Luxurious and scented and total relaxation!
For the first time in 5 years.
Amazing.
