It has been one month since having my gallbladder removed.
Who knew this would be the most straightforward recovery compared to all other previous surgeries?
I am feeling pretty much back to myself before the procedure. The only difference I notice is a little less nausea, a little bit of extra soreness in my right upper abdomen, and that it is heavy foods and large amounts of food definitely bother my entire system quite a bit more.
What better way to test this than on Thanksgiving weekend?
I definitely notice that the more fibre I eat, the better that portion of my body feels (but I also have to consider my poor Crohn's Disease), and that I have to eat very slowly when having bigger meals. I need to take lots of breaks and it becomes more and more important to consume enough water.
I still have to be careful with how much I lift or push or put onto my abdomen. I still have another month before I can even lift more than 10lbs.
There was one stitch that was sticking out of my abdomen until last week. I had to wait until the stitch had healed my incision and dissolved on the inside before the part poking out could be removed. So, like anything that pokes out, it was catching on clothing and I couldn't help fiddling with it. I would lightly tug on it every night until it easily slid out of my incision.
Now it's all about healing.
So not much has really changed.
I have always had to be careful about food, so adding a little extra complication is not disrupting my routine. My nausea has actually improved slightly, so that's a bonus! Then, having to eat more slowly and eat smaller meals is not a big deal. At all.
And, lucky enough for me, alcohol has always hit me pretty quickly, so drinking less won't be difficult to manage either.
Below is a photo of my abdomen as of today - just over one month later. You can barely see the 5 incisions that were made laparoscopically for this surgery.
Now I just wait four more weeks, at least, before resuming crunches or my standard yoga sessions.
