On November 20, 2022, I reduced to a mostly liquid and soft-food diet. Every 2-3 weeks I would try more solid food, with painful and bloody consequences, but I've been slowly increasing the amount of solid foods in my diet.
Soft foods that my intestines don't hate currently include: small amounts of bread or pasta (not every day though), potatoes, cheese, pudding, yogurt, Boost, ice cream, cake-textured desserts, eggs, and creamy soups. I can't really handle jello anymore (having had it too much during these kinds of episodes as a kid), and I hate basic broth. But I do have some choices - which I am grateful for.
On March 10th I was finally able to go back on my prophylactic medication for HAE - which has helped improve my swelling and my intestinal symptoms.
So I tried some actual vegetables last week! Well, that didn't go great. The shredded carrot & peeled cucumber shredded my intestines. So, okay, not ready for that yet.
BUT - I have been able to add in some fish! I had some tuna last week that went fine, white fish two weeks ago that went fine, and last night I had salmon - with no negative consequences apart from a little bit of pain. More than manageable!
Add in some reduction in the swelling - I have noticed my fingers are slimmer and my face is slimmer now too - and I am finally beginning to feel like I'm getting back (slowly but steadily) to where I was before going off of that one medication.
Potatoes and breads today (omg always potatoes), but maybe more fish this weekend! It will be a slow-go, but I'm hoping my Crohn's gets back to a more manageable state with more solid foods available to me.
So technically, I have been on a mostly soft food diet for over 20 weeks now... with some breaks every few weeks to try solid foods.
This is the reality.
