Waiting rooms are like rush hour traffic. You hurry up to get going, then you basically just sit there. Here are a few tips to get you through the wait:
1. Realize that (like traffic) there is absolutely nothing you can really do about it.
2. Everyone else is in the same boat as you are - and some may have had worse days than you.
3. Getting angry, impatient, and frustrated only hurts one person. (You guessed it - you!).
4. Always leave headphones in your pocket/wallet/purse - listen to some of your favorite music or play a really mentally involved game (not while driving of course). It will make the time seem to go by more quickly.
5. Bring a notebook and, if you haven't already done so, write down all of the things that you would like to speak with the doctor about. Even the most experienced patients will often forget a symptom, a medication, or an important question.
6. Strike up a conversation with the person next to you who is also trying to pass the time.
7. Remember that every single person in there is likely not feeling well - that's why we go to doctors in the first place. Getting irritated and stressed will not only affect your mood, but others may feed off of your energy.
It's always easier said than done, but those are my waiting room tips of the day. :)
