When I was in high school, there really wasn't that much of a knowledge base when it came to digestive disorders. "Gluten-free" was a term only seen at specialty shops and we really had no clue what "inflamed" meant... I know that it was rumored at one point that I had bulimia due to my frequent visits to the ladies' room after any food intake....
But the best question happened in high school after my first surgery.
I had just had emergency surgery to remove my large intestine because it was killing me. After I got back to school, a classmate walked right up to me and said:
"I heard they removed your large intestine! Can you live without a large intestine?"
And without missing a beat, I said:
"Nope"
Then I walked away giggling to myself. :)
