I had the pre-admission clerk call me last week wanting to go over my medical history. The basic questions were pretty standard - what meds I take, what my allergies/intolerances are, the illnesses I have been diagnosed with, which specialists that I see on a regular basis, and all major surgeries.
There were a few questions that I wasn't expecting - one being how many times I have had any kind of sedation, another one being how many scopes I have had!!
I didn't even know how to respond! I used to keep track of scopes, but there were so many that I couldn't keep track anymore. It used to be every couple of weeks even just in the office with no sedation! I couldn't even give her a basic ball park. Then she also asked about dental work - even getting fillings done. Due to the speculated Sjogren's, cavities are kind of a regular thing, so I didn't really have a number for that either... Over 20 for sure (some are replacement fillings obviously).
Either way, it took 40 minutes on the phone the first day and another 20 minutes over the phone the next morning.
Due to how complicated my situation is, I also have to get some bloodwork done and I have to meet with an anesthesiologist in September to go over the sedation and everything.... This procedure should *technically* be no longer than 20 minutes - and that's being generous! The actual IUD removal should really take all of 30 seconds... But since they have to do a hysteroscopy to find it first, I figure it might take a little longer and require more prep time.
Talk about a huge process!!
What's great about it is that they are being extremely thorough and don't want any more mistakes to occur, as well as preparing for if things don't go as planned.
Crazy prep for a 20 min procedure!
Now tomorrow I start my 4L Golytely prep for the scopes on Tuesday. I am SO looking forward to ordering myself some gluten-free Domino's Pizza on Wednesday.
So hungry.
