Adaptation vs Stubbornness

People say that I can adapt well to always-changing situations (this is sometimes true).

People also say that I am very stubborn (this is absolutely true).

But how can I be both? That doesn't quite make sense. Being able to adapt means letting go of previous dreams, plans, etc...

The truth is, we all have some sort of picture about the rest of our lives. We all have ideas of what we want to accomplish, what kind of direction we would like our lives to take, and letting go of those dreams is one of the absolute hardest things to do.

For instance

I have a name picked out for a daughter I will never have.

I have that 'picture' in my head of all of the places I still want to visit (even though most of those places require vaccinations that I cannot get).

I still picture myself on the volleyball court, on a snowboard, on the basketball court, and those dreams have long been impossible.

I still imagine me being able to run.

I mean, I told my current bf that a prerequisite to dating me was that he be willing and able to two-step - and that was when I was using a walker.

We all have these pictures of how our lives are going to go... And rarely do they ever go according to plan. We need to find a way to accept and learn to LOVE exactly where our lives have taken us and the amazing things that have come out of it.

Stubborn.
Able to adapt.
