Foolproof!

Here is a tip to battle hallucinations at night: 
(Because it's totally a very common problem) 

Own a dog! 

If I see something/someone in my house, if my dog doesn't go berserk, then I know it's not actually real. 
It's a great method for when I see someone or something in my room and start freaking out, unsure if it's real. Then, if Decker isn't already awake, I wake him up and see how he reacts.
