There are millions of people who suffer through the holidays for a variety of reasons.
I am extremely lucky that I have such an amazing support system. There are SO many people who do not have the support system that they NEED during times of struggle and sadness.
Along with bringing awareness to SEVERAL illnesses, I also wanted to point out that many suicide hotlines and crisis prevention centres are run by volunteers. Suicide prevention is incredibly important, especially this time of year.
I decided to donate to a crisis centre in Alberta because even though I have not had to call in, I know other people who might, and it is a crucial humanitarian service that I am happy exists. I know that there are people to help me if I were to ever feel the need to call in.
I have also decided that every single day that I get down, upset, sad, angry, or frustrated with my own situation, I am going to light a candle to represent every single other person who might be struggling out there, and to remind myself that I am still here, I am still lucky.
I wish everyone a safe and joyful holiday season. I wish those that are suffering can access the help that they need to cope with any obstacle that is placed in their way.
