Procedure Update

So - yesterday was my day surgery to go in and remove the IUD that was not supposed to still be there.
I was to be there three hours prior, and was visited by the doc, the anesthesiologist, and three other doctors (including two med students).
The procedure itself was only about ten minutes... But because of how extensive my history is, they did a little overkill. They even started me on two different antibiotics before even putting me to sleep.
The whole day is pretty fuzzy, kind of like a dream that you can only sort of remember. I remember certain moments and certain conversations, but I'm missing entire segments of information.

The most important thing is that the surgery actually went BETTER than expected and they had to do less in there than they initially thought. This means that I am in much less pain than we thought that I would be.

One of my favorite moments is when my surgeon asked me if it was okay to have the med students in the operating room and take a look, and then I told her that I couldn't wait to tell my boyfriend that five people looked up my hoo-ha today... Got some good laughs. It broke the tension anyways - everyone looked so incredibly serious. I guess that's to be expected when you give them a history that looks like a time bomb ready to go off at ant moment. One wrong move, one wrong movement of a hand and things could go sideways in a hurry.
They had even explained that they were going to do conscious sedation instead of general anesthesia so that I could tell them if I was having trouble breathing - he also explained that inserting a breathing tube from the get-go could, in fact, TRIGGER an attack... So we just have to prepare for the worst and be cautious.
Of course, the procedure we prepare the most for is the one that goes extremely well. Here's hoping the days/weeks of recovery still go as smoothly.

Oh, and to celebrate the end of this phase, I went to get a third piercing in my ear.
Should just be an easy five-minute click-click, little pinch, and done. Nope. She clicks the gun and the damn earring gets stuck halfway through my earlobe... And  since she is not allowed to physically touch the earring, I got to pull it out of the half section it was stuck into. Now I have to go back tomorrow because they have to let me go home and let it heal.

So the hardest thing went smoothly and the easiest thing caused a problem?
Well... At least surgery went well!!

Here's to a good day in the O.R.!!
