I had my appointment with the Ophthalmologist today. After a bunch of scans and an angiogram of my eyes, nothing is blatantly obvious.
He believes that the vision loss that I am experiencing is simply the progression of my Macular Degeneration. The optic nerve did not seem to be inflamed and there were no other visible signs of retinal detachment or blood vessel leaks.
So, out of all of the possible reasons for the vision loss, this is probably the best out of all of them.
The only unsettling part is that he still was not 100% sure, and because the vision loss isn't directly in my central vision, it means that I may be in the small percentage of people with Macular Degeneration who also lose peripheral vision; complete vision loss. It is rare, but it happens.
I have more scans in a month to check for the specific loss of vision, and then we will be doing the full scans every 3 months instead of every 6 months, just to keep on top of it.
At least now, if I notice more shadows and holes in my vision, I can relax a little and know that it is not from an extra problem with my eyes - that it's simply from the disease that I already have, and I am already doing everything that I can to help it/slow it down. Otherwise there are no treatments.
So... Good-ish news...?
I still bought flowers to brighten the day a little more. No matter what kind of silver linings I find, I am still losing my sight. I am just happy that it's not an emergency problem that will speed up the process. At least I will have time to prepare.
