With the temperatures getting up to Summer weather temperatures, it is clear that bikini season is quickly approaching!
I've always been able to maintain a fairly healthy, athletic, reasonably fit body type, but I also REALLY love my sweets... And for several weeks now I have not been able to maintain a workout routine - sometimes because I've been too busy, and other times because I am far too weak and low on energy.
I have also ALWAYS loved my fruits and veggies. Sometimes, when I babysat, I would actually eat extra bowls of brussels sprouts after dinner and feel guilty about it! I LOVE veggies!
The problem with that is that my IBD kinda prevents me from being able to have lots of vegetables. Veggies aren't great for intestines that don't really work properly to begin with.
But this past weekend - I was determined to start eating healthier overall on a day to day basis - you know, less carbs, lots of fruits and veggies and fish, less sugar, more herbal teas, less ice cream, more yogurt...
So when I went to the grocery store to get a whole bunch of health-conscious groceries, I forgot that 'healthy' isn't always 'healthy' for my particular body.
After barbeque-ing some raspberry chipotle chicken with mini potatoes, snow peas, grape tomatoes, and onions, I chowed down! Mmmm peas and tomatoes and potatoes... Plus a container of mouth-watering mango, pineapple, and kiwi slices! I was in taste bud heaven.
Give me a bowl of broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, avocados, peas, corn, brussels sprouts, raw carrots, and I'm a happy camper!
Until the pain starts.
Stomach starts writhing, sharp pains, feels like I ate a whole bunch of toothpicks that are poking holes in my digestive tract.
Then I remember - what is considered healthy for most people is not the best choice for me. I have to remind myself to eat small amounts of veggies with other foods like carbs and protein.
It's really too bad that I was actually one of those people who actually ENJOY eating vegetables.
I mean, if I was originally a really picky eater, then my dietary needs with IBD would be awesome!!
Another reason to remind ourselves that no two people are the same. That healthy choices for one person might actually be physically detrimental to another person.
