It seems as though fitness goals and challenges and competitions are on the rise. It has all become a fairly popular past-time, and with the weather being so much nicer, we all would like to be confident to join friends at the lake and wear a swimsuit in public.
We each have our own individual views on beauty and weight - but the bottom line is that we all want to feel comfortable in our own skin. We all want that confidence - whether it's lose or gain or tone or build, changing hair colors or styles, finding new summer-friendly wardrobes - feeling happy with our own bodies is a priority.
Now, our bodies are in a constant state of change. Issues like illness, hormonal imbalances, diet, exercise, and simply getting older, all contribute to these changes. This is why many people feel as though weight and beauty are both battles that are fought for life.
One of the recent trends that I like is a monthly or daily challenge that you can feel a part of without actually going anywhere. Now, for the individuals who have difficulties finding motivation, who are much more goal-oriented with company, or even those who NEED constant coaching and inspiration, these personal challenges are not always a great fit.
A friend of mine posted such an event recently. I am not sure of its origin, but I loved it! It is a July abs and butt challenge. There are three basic exercises and each one is increased by quantity alone each day of the month. They are simple enough exercises, but offer room to either make it easier or harder - whatever YOU can personally handle. The three exercises are crunches, regular squats, and hip raises. Squats and crunches, for me, have always been relatively easy - in the sense that I can do them even on partially bad days, when I'm not feeling well. BUT - having specific numbers laid out for me, I use it as a template. I make sure that I do the bare minimum, and then if I have the energy, I do more.
I cannot get to a gym.
My energy levels vary drastically throughout the day.
I cannot usually get out and do proper cardio.
For me, these monthly challenges are fantastic. It offers a community and extra motivation, without being pushy or making you feel obligated.
I think that these challenges, with relatively simple exercises, is a great way to increase tone and strength and overall fitness - especially if there are limitations to chronic illness.
