Fecal Transplants for IBD

Fecal transplants - taking the stool of a person with no signs of any bowel disease, and transferring it to a patient with bowel disease.

Doctors and scientists have been working on this particular treatment for years now - but it has just come up on Global Television as of this morning.

It has been a successful form of treatment for many patients, and it is always exciting to hear about new treatments being approved for chronic illnesses - no matter how unusual it may seem.

Does it sound disgusting?
Yes, yes it does.

There are many people who claim it to be preposterous, who have stated that they believe it is a hoax of some sort, and quite a few people are saying that they would never try this form of treatment, no matter what.

In my personal opinion, if you are feeling well enough to refuse this treatment solely because it seems disgusting, then it's possible that you haven't hit your personal rock-bottom with these particular diseases.

Every person has his/her limit before resorting to frightening, disgusting, or even life-threatening treatments (how great of an oxymoron is THAT?). Those individuals opting to try this treatment are obviously in desperate need of some relief.

When you are faced with an excruciatingly painful chronic illness, your 'journey' or 'story' does not end until your life ends.

There are hundreds of patients who suffer from various forms of IBD who have tried everything and have not achieved remission. After countless medications, transfusions, surgeries, procedures, tests, and years and years of incessant internal torture, a fecal transplant may seem like a brilliant beacon of hope.
