CHUCK OUT THE BODY SCALE
:)
Sometimes it says exactly what you want it to, but sometimes the number looks so daunting that you simply tell yourself that it might be broken or faulty. Yes. Exactly. That has to be the reason why the number isn't correct. ;)
Even people with relatively stable weight don't always like the scale, but the society we live in is fairly focused on personal appearance, so the numbers that appear on a platform that we stand on has FAR too much power on the human psyche.
With health conditions such as hyper- or hypothyroidism, medications like Prednisone, and especially Hereditary Angioedema, owning a scale is usually pointless. With all of the swelling and water retention, a body scale has been known to show different numbers in the same day - variable by up to 20 lbs (in my personal experience).
At this point there is nothing that I can do about it, and since it isn't actual weight gain, it is quite discouraging to step on a scale in the morning, then have fluctuated throughout the day to weigh an extra 10% in the evening.
SO - instead of focusing on a ridiculous measurement of weight, as well as becoming increasingly frustrated with a number, I simply do not own a scale.
I know me.
It is difficult enough to FEEL so much extra weight - not through any fault of my own - that if I were to also see a depressing number, I may very well begin to obsess about the number itself instead of relaxing, helping the swelling reduce, and focusing my attention on muscle tone and increasing core strength.
A body scale for me is not a necessity.
If owning a scale does nothing but cause anxiety and result in an unhealthy obsession over a number, then why not just chuck that scale out the window?
