No Happy Endings

In continuing with the theme of always expecting to get better, there is also a general belief in what we deem as 'happy endings'.
Many of us have grown up with nursery rhymes, fairytales, and movies that often end with:
"And they lived happily ever after...the end".

This misunderstood notion leaves many people believing that once you reach that 'happy ending' point, that you will be forever-after blissfully happy. It suggests that achieving your happiness is the end goal as opposed to a long-term commitment.

In reality, there are no happy endings - there are only happy moments.

If we are always waiting to get better, waiting to be swept off of our feet, waiting for that miraculous happy ending, we risk overlooking the happy moments that we can experience along the way.

Having goals and dreams are vital, but it is also important to enjoy happy moments that you experience on the way. Cherishing all of those positive experiences while working towards a goal has ZERO risk of failure. If you never manage to reach a specific goal, at least you will have made some incredible memories. If your focus remains solely on that 'happy ending' without appreciating the happy moments, if that goal isn't achieved, the resulting feeling could be catastrophic.

There are no such things as happy endings.

Would you prefer to have one significant happy ending at the very end of your life, or experiencing millions and millions of happy moments throughout your lifetime?

I know what my choice would be.

I will always do whatever I can to feel better and to improve my health, but I am also not going to sit back and miss out on happy moments by having tunnel vision and only focusing on that final 'fairytale ending'.

In my mind, I am already living my 'happily ever after', and it makes life a lot more enjoyable. You don't need perfect health to live an amazing and fulfilling life.
