The Indulgent Necessities

There are several good things that come out of being sick. Really, there are. They are often subtle and can be hiding somewhere for you to find.

The mattress that I have had for many years was getting completely worn out. Sinking in the middle, causing sleeping problems and extra shoulder and back pain, and the box spring was all torn apart underneath (much from when Decker was very little).
Not a big deal right?
If I wasn't ill, this is not something I would have really noticed, and I sure as hell would not be 'spoiling' myself with a new bed if I weren't sick. I mean, for 4-5 years, while I was in University, I slept on a pretty awful futon mattress. I could not afford a better bed, I did not need a better bed, so there was no point. Once that bed got unbearably worn out, I was finally able to justify owning something better.

I have never owned a bed that was larger than a double. Again - there was no real point and I didn't need it. So I used my double bed up until last night. Over the past few months I have noticed a pretty drastic spike in pain in my hips and shoulders through the night, as well as sleeplessness, primarily due to the bed sinking in the center. It was simply worn out. So when I finally admitted that it was time to get a new bed, I began looking for another double to replace mine.
With some research and some analysis, spending extra money for a better-made mattress was absolutely worth it. It might be more expensive, but I can't afford to be in more pain each night while trying to sleep.
So, although having Arthritis sucks, it justified replacing my worn-out bed with something bigger and much better. I definitely feel spoiled - I never thought I would really need or have the opportunity to own a Queen-size bed until I was married ... But the timeline rushed this particular purchase. Good thing it was a mix-n-match sale and free delivery, and that my parents were able and wanting to help me out with this particular investment.

I am crossing my fingers that I will start sleeping better and that my hips won't be in any extra pain - just from a mattress.
