How many times have you looked at your yoga mat and thought 'I should really get moving and practice today', but then wind up keeping your mat rolled up and off to the side? Have you ever thought to yourself that you should really work out, but become reluctant to do so because you would have to get everything out and moved and create a space to do so?
I think that it is important to have a specific area or room designated as an exercise area, where everything is set up at all times - ready to use. It is important to create the atmosphere in which you find the most motivating.
I am hoping to eventually create a kind of Zen room. There are specific elements of a yoga studio that I absolutely love, and therefore want to recreate that atmosphere in the comfort of my own home.
Ideally, my Zen room would not only include yoga, but also cardio and weight machines. I would love to keep my yoga mat out on the floor, surrounded by candles. Then I would have an oil diffuser in the room with my favorite calming scents, and spa music always playing in the background. Facing the mat towards a window would be ideal, with a wall mirror on the side to continually monitor my form. Then, on the other side of the room there would be workout equipment and a set of weights, facing a television with a DVD player to possibly watch workout videos.
This room should also be void of social technology. I believe that true workouts and truly beneficial yoga routines should include as few distractions as possible. I want to feel like I am stepping into a completely different world when I enter my Zen room. I want it to feel, look, and smell like a yoga studio - calming, refreshing, and rejuvenating.
It will happen eventually. A girl can dream.
