A cold is just a cold. It is a temporary illness that presents with sneezing, coughing, a stuffed or runny nose, headaches, and some stomach discomfort. It, by no means, takes you completely out of commission.... unless you happen to have underlying medical conditions.
I have a touch of a cold. I have only been sneezing a bit, coughing just a little, and had a stuffy nose for one night. Sounds simple right? Sounds like nothing. But the stomach discomfort and fatigue that goes along with it can be pretty devastating to energy levels. It has made my good days bad and my bad days hell. I have needed extra help this past week and have had a tough time just getting through the days. A touch of a cold turns into a full-blown attack. Talk about being 'under the weather'.
I also managed to run out of all of my pain medication at once... and could not get into see the doctor in time, so I had to deal with some extra uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms. Add the tongue swell I have recently experienced and I am SO done with this week. Yesterday at home I even wound up having to crawl on the floor instead of walk at certain times. Just because of the nasty stomach upset.
These last few days have been so particularly awful that I had to allow myself to break down. I had to let myself cry and cry and cry for hours on end, pissed off about everything going on, and cry some more. I HAD to just let go and feel sorry for myself for a short while.
Because of a cold.
A simple, temporary, common, inconvenience that turned into a full blown hellish few days... that are hopefully now almost over. The lisp from my tongue swell is almost gone at least, and I have all of my medication now, so once this cold moves on, I will be back to my normal.
As an aside - the day or two before I started having these extra terrible symptoms, my poor puppy had a few vomiting episodes. Sympathy pains maybe? My poor dog. :(
