This past weekend we headed up to Jasper for a couple of nights. I had never been there and RJ hadn't been there in years, so it was an incredible trip with new experiences for both of us.
The entire weekend was pretty perfect. The weather was amazing, the drive through the Rockies was gorgeous, we had great food, enjoyed a little souvenir shopping, swam in the hotel pool, and even had a dog-sitter while we went to the famous SkyWalk.
Of course it all required a bit of walking, so my joints were pretty sore and inflamed, I used my cane for most of the weekend, but even with all of that it felt pretty perfect.
The SkyWalk was WAY more exhilarating than I expected... and after about five minutes on the glass walkway, Ryan pulled out a small black box from his pocket, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him.
I was surprised, thrilled, way beyond emotional, and managed to squeeze out an enthusiastic "YES" in between streaming tears.
Perfect.
But perfection comes at a price.
Unfortunately, with all of the excitement, with the glass floor above a falling valley, a surprise proposal, more walking than usual, a long drive, and, overall, a weekend full of high intensity excitement, my HAE was not exactly cooperative.
My thighs, abdomen, and arms were the first culprits... followed by hands, intestines, and calves... and thennnnnn my throat came into the picture. I don't typically present with throat edema, so that was particularly frightening, but with a little rest and relaxation I was able to keep it from becoming obstructive while we were out of town.
Today, however, I called my Hematologist and she sent me to the Emergency Room for treatment. Too much excitement and happiness caused a moderate throat swell that required two doses of an emergency medication.
My throat will likely be sore for several days now, but at least I can breathe normally without any strain.
All Ryan's fault of course 😉
Was it worth it?
Totally.
Good thing it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Absolutely AMAAAAZING weekend that I will remember for the rest of my life... It's just too bad that it caused such a potentially dangerous episode.
So my boyfriend caused a throat swell, but my FIANCÉ drove me to Emergency.
Eeeeeee!
