Like Mum Like Pup

Ever since I adopted my Decker-man, I have noticed some eerie similarities when it comes to health.

First off, he has a super sensitive stomach. Whenever he tries something new - a new kind of treat or bone or bully stick - he always gets the runs that day. Then, the next time he has that treat he is completely fine.
He is also super prone to vomiting.
He is always nauseous in the mornings and usually chews on some grass and pukes up a bit. Although now, since we give him Pepcid AC each night, he is much better about the daily bouts. Still, if he gets too exhausted or is too active, he will vomit. If he is scared or nervous, he will usually vomit or have the runs. Whenever we go for a walk or do anything active, his bathroom breaks get closer and closer together until he gets urgency (where he squats to go because he feels the need to, but there is nothing there).

He is a major napper. He takes naps ALL the time. He loves to nap outside in the blistering heat and he loves his multiple beds. Even when he was younger and crazy excitable he was still always napping.

The most recent symptom that is similar to his mama is that he gets abscesses. A year or two ago the vet removed three of them. This summer he has had two really bad ones. There was one on his back that has now healed after several months, and there is one on his tail that absolutely will not heal. The poor pup has been in a cone for almost 3 weeks now, he has had two different courses of antibiotics, and we are now looking at having it surgically removed.

Other than the vomiting (which is now under control), the nap-times, and the abscesses, he is actually in really great health. His weight is good, his nails are routinely ground down at home, he gets his teeth and his coat brushed, and he is absolutely spoiled rotten with toys and treats and cuddles.

Luckily his health issues have been relatively minor. They don't affect his personality or energy level, they are more nuisances than anything, but I still feel bad for the poor thing. :(
