You know what is awesome about medications sometimes?
Sometimes, a medication does exactly what it is supposed to do.
Sometimes, a medication doesn't cause any negative side effects.
Sometimes, a medication manages to help an additional illness/symptom as a lucky surprise.
Then - if a medication combines all three of these things, it can be quite heavenly!!
Today I had to take Maxalt - a medication designed to help a migraine before it starts (or after it starts if you don't know it's coming). The only side effect is sleepiness, which is awesome. AND it also managed to ease some intestinal pain and cramping from my Crohn's. So it basically erased my migraine, made me a bit sleepy, AND helped my intestinal pain.
Total jackpot!!
Some of my other medications do double-duty as well. My Methotrexate, for instance, is supposed to help my Psoriasis, Crohn's Disease, Ankylosing Spondylitis, and any other autoimmune inflammatory conditions that might pop up. The Cosentyx is also supposed to help the Ankylosing Spondylitis and my Psoriasis.
It's nice when medications can help several symptoms - even if they do come with some side effects that can take time to become accustomed to.
Today I am just pleasantly surprised that my migraine medication is also helping my intestinal pain a bit.
