This year, because of getting a wheelchair as well as because of the postal strike, I was really looking forward to going physically shopping for Christmas presents. It really is staggering the difference in energy when I use a wheelchair vs when I attempt to walk through an entire mall (or even just an entire store for that matter).
Yesterday my mom joined me to shop at one of the largest malls nearby. It was so much more enjoyable since I was not as distracted by pain. Of course, it was a bit disappointing. Seeing myself in a mirror in the wheelchair is sobering. I also still find it incredibly shocking how much more progress we need to make for better accessibility. Now, this place was super well-equipped, but I still had difficulty doing basic things... and I am not bound to the chair.
That's a conversation for another time.
Sure it is a sad thought knowing that I am struggling with mobility, but I just got to enjoy going shopping in a MALL for the first time in YEARS!!
I may have ended the week with 3 needles (bloodwork and two sub-cutaneous injections)... I may have had to use a wheelchair to buy some Christmas gifts, I may have several crash days because of shopping, and I may be saddened by the general progression of my illnesses - but I got to enjoy something I had not been able to enjoy for years. I got to spend quality time with my mom that only partially included a medical appointment. I didn't have to buy ANY gifts online.
It's all about the lighter side right?
