I actually really love the new commercial that encourages people to get the Shingles vaccine - not because of the vaccine itself, or the Shingles in particular, but because of their tagline they use in the commercial, which is:
"Shingles doesn't care".
It is a perfect message for most illnesses. It doesn't matter how active you are, if you eat a plant-based diet, how much sleep you get or how well you take care of yourself - most illnesses don't care. Lupus doesn't care. Cancer doesn't care. Hereditary Angioedema doesn't care. Ankylosing Spondylitis doesn't care. The flu doesn't care. Crohn's Disease doesn't care.
Of course it is always best to take care of yourself as well as you can in as many aspects of your life that you can, but living the perfect life with a well-balanced clean diet, a life full of activity and necessary precautions, making sure your nutrition and stress levels and exercise are all at optimum levels will not prevent you from becoming ill. Living that kind of life may prevent other illnesses - the kinds of illnesses that we know are directly caused by bad lifestyle choices - but it won't save you from everything.
Illness doesn't care.
