Muggle Illness

I saw a comment today that I thought was brilliant.
The comment referred to common illnesses - like colds, flus, strep throat, pulled or sore muscles (essentially any temporary illness that is not a product of a chronic disease) - as a Muggle Illness.

I am loving that term!
I am likely to use it.

Sometimes I refer to those without chronic illness as 'normals'. But I like 'Muggles' and 'Muggle Illnesses' so much more. :)

Part of this conversation that brought up the term was discussing how a regular human being who suffers a temporary illness will often have a much different experience than one with underlying chronic illness. Not to say that one is worse or better than another, just different. The mindset is different, the fears are different, even the symptoms can vary dramatically.
A cold, for example, for a 'muggle' will often include a combination of symptoms: coughing, sneezing, having a runny nose, or a stuffed up nose, muscle aches, tiredness, nausea, fever, sore throat, headache, lethargy, altered appetite, sinus congestion, etc... commonly lasting a few days to a couple of weeks
A cold for a Spoonie, however, could also include additional symptoms not usually associated with a common cold: vomiting, onset of pneumonia, migraine headaches, intestinal disruption (diarrhea or constipation), fever, chills, dehydration, severe changes in weight, extreme fatigue, mobility issues, in addition to most of the common symptoms... commonly lasting weeks to even months. With an added complication of being on a Biologic medication, the Muggle symptoms of a common cold can last for years.

Anyhow, that was my long-winded method of expressing my appreciation for a new nerdy term for people without chronic illnesses and the various common infections they are plagued with.

'Muggle Illnesses'.
