It is pretty evident that I am a stubborn individual.
Sadly, my collection of heels is utilized a lot less than it it used to be. I LOVE heels. Stilettos, kitten, chunky, spike, peep-toes, pumps, Mary-janes, strappy, wedge, platform - I owned them all. Unless I was on the baseball diamond or the volleyball court, out camping, or anything athletic, I'd be wearing some kind of heel.
And then I got Ankylosing Spondylitis. My SI joints and subsequent hip pain forced me to keep my heels as mostly ornamental - wearing them only with extra medication for special occasions. The odd date night, a Christmas party, a wedding, those kinds of occasions.
For my Bridal Shower - there was no way I was showing up for a beautifully put together shower for ME in flats or (heaven forbid) flipflops. Heels were the only option I would want to wear.
So I picked a pair of BRIGHTLY coloured kitten heels that matched some bling at the neckline of the dress I was wearing.
Then, to ensure that I could walk in them long enough to get from the car to the seating, I took extra medication to help with the pain. I knew that I would be sitting for the majority of the time, so I only required just enough extra pain relief for a short time. It worked until we were almost ready to leave, then the pain had risen enough to push right past that medication.
Was it worth it?
Totally.
The truth is, afterwards I needed more medication, a nap, a lot of rest, and then had a severe intestinal episode overnight.. all from a low-key celebratory bridal shower... but the whole day was lovely and amazing. My night after may have been super difficult, but it was worth it.
