"Stoop Fish"

In the movie Hall Pass, there is a scene where three of the main characters are discussing the attractiveness of one particular tall blonde and her 'stoop fish'.
Essentially, when looking at only the blonde, she does not seem all that attractive. Yet, when you zoom out and include the friends around her who are even less attractive, she seems like a bombshell. *Zoom Out* "Hot", *zoom in* "Not hot"!

Last night we were watching a cooking show that we both really like. As I lifted up my water glass to take a drink, I noticed that the face of each judge was skewed. At first, I thought it was the tv or the angle at which I was watching. I soon realized that it was because my water glass had blocked the vision of one of my eyes, and my Macular Degeneration was affecting the symmetry in my vision.

So I kept testing it.
Every time they had one single face staring at the camera head-on, I would cover one eye or the other.

Symmetrical, not symmetrical, symmetrical, not symmetrical.

I thought it was pretty funny. In every case, the faces became skewed and curvy. It would jut out in certain places where their actual face does not. Suddenly, everyone's nose seemed to break at different spots depending on which eye was closed, and their faces were entirely skewed.
Yet, with both eyes open, normal faces. Symmetrical. No odd bends.

I mean, it is not really funny.
This means that my eyes are working overtime to fill in the gaps caused by Macular Degeneration. So when I see with both eyes open, everything looks as it should. With one eye closed though, I see deviations.

Again, it's a good thing I find it fascinating. It is one bright side about anything happening slowly. Losing my vision at a snail's pace is allowing me to 'see' exactly how my vision is beginning to change.
I just wish there was something else I could do about it.

Fingers crossed that it takes another 30 years to cause noticeable vision loss.
